Two updates to NextComp

We just pushed two new updates to the server.

The first update allows you to configure the My Jobs table with all of the survey fields on the new 2007 survey data template. Check out the My Jobs table configuration tool for a listing of all the new fields. Try creating a new configuration to see the field names.

The second update fixes a few issues with the Linked Jobs tool. The fix address issues with updating the Linked jobs when changes are made to the Master job. The fix also allows you to clean up any unsynchronized matches in your Master and Linked jobs. Just refresh the results table for the pay plan to get everything cleaned up. You can read about updating the results table in the Online Help page.

Happy Holidays!

Thanks - The NextComp Team

Our next big project!

Hi, my name is Elliott Miller, and I'm the web developer for Nextcomp.net and Compmodel.net.

Earlier this year, we released Compmodel.net for public use, which was developed in the Microsoft .Net environment. Utilizing the .Net technology, we were able to create a stable and user-friendly compensation modeling application.

Our newest project is NextComp Gamma. NextComp Gamma will be the new version of NextComp. We are calling it "collaborative market pricing". Collaborative market pricing means that you can more easily manage, gather and utilize feedback on your market pricings from other team members or other areas of your organization, such as managers, directors, VPs etc.

Nextcomp Gamma is being developed with the new Google Web Toolkit (GWT).

What does that mean for you? By utilizing GWT, we will be able to bring you new, more powerful, faster and more reliable market pricing tools. We will be able to make all of your tools work much more quickly and we will be able to develop new tools faster.

This toolkit is the next big step in web development, and we are excited to have the opportunity to use the most innovative and powerful technology available. We will still be utilizing industry standard database and server technology. All of your data will remain secure and confidential. Also, the transition to NextComp Gamma will happen gradually and you'll have plenty of time to make the switch at your own pace.

In the meantime we continue to develop and enhance the existing NextComp application with changes that we've mentioned in past blog posts or in discussions directly with you, our subscribers.

We can't divulge any more details about Nextcomp Gamma yet, but we will release information about the exciting new features we're bringing you in 2007.

3 Day Blackout

We're back up and running after three days without power. A tremendous wind storm hit the Northwest after record rainfall in November. The combination of water soaked ground and high winds resulted in over 1 million people being left without power for more than two days. Some parts of the area will be without power for several more days.

Our office was hit by the power outage resulting in the servers being down on Friday and over the weekend. We've planned to move the servers to a data center after the first of the year and this event has accelerated our plans. We apologize for the down time. It's been a difficult three days, but we have power, phones, and internet connectivity again, so things are back to normal.

The local grocery store was running on generator power over the weekend.
