We've added the most new fields for survey data. The Custom Query tool now includes Target Total Cash, Long-term Incentive, and Total Direct Compensation fields.

Soccer season is here

My son is starting his 3rd year of soccer this year. I had so much fun coaching his little league team that I'm helping as assistant coach of his soccer team. It's great to have time like this with my oldest son. I really enjoy the opportunity to participate and lend a hand. The kids on the team are excited for their first game next week. I'll post some pictures throughout the season.

Presentation at San Diego Compensation and Benefits Association

I’ve just returned from San Diego where I presented at the San Diego Compensation and Benefits Association meeting on Wednesday evening. The group had a good turnout with about 40 people in attendance. I had a chance to demonstrate both NextComp and CompModel to the group. I even had a chance to visit with several people that had stopped by the booth in Anaheim. It was nice to visit and catch up on the status of their market pricing projects.

After the meeting I had a chance to visit the beach near where the meeting was held in La Jolla. I arrived just as all the surfers were coming in for the night. It was like a mass migration of surfers from the water to the beach and up the hill back to their cars. I drove down the beach hoping to find a little Oceanside restaurant. I did manage to find a little community with beach access. I parked the car and walked to the beach where there were about 30 kids playing in the water and in the sand. The hotel next to the beach had spotlights shining out onto the water. It looked like a lot of fun! I stayed for a bit and watched the ocean and then headed back to the hotel.

It’s nice to be back in the office. Especially since this is the busiest time of the year. Now, I have to get back to working on some new NextComp features, working with Elliott on getting CompModel ready for release and of course supervising data loading!

Basecamp rollout to NextComp subscribers

We began a pilot rollout of 37signals Basecamp product to a select group of NextComp subscribers in July. It's been a great success both for us at NextComp and for our subscribers. Here are a few of the features of Basecamp:

  • Manage messages (like e-mails but tracked on Basecamp for easy reference later)
  • Upload survey data files for easy transfer and tracking
  • Track to-do items and data loading milestones

Best of all there is really no training required to use the product. It's very easy to respond to messages, create messages, upload files and track to-do's.

We are rolling Basecamp out to all of our subscribers over the next two months.

This will become our standard data loading and project management tool by the end of the year.

We have some more plans for how to use the tool with NextComp in the future. We'll keep you posted.

COMPMODEL.NET pre-release demo

Supporting NextComp is a top priority for us. But we also want to keep on top of new ideas and develop tools that will assist you in your compensation planning work.

In this spirit we've been busy working on a new product over the Summer. As many of you know, we've hired a full time programmer to assist with our development efforts. This has allowed us to create a new application called CompModel.

We've launched a blog and also we have a pre-release online Quicktime demo.

Take a look at www.compmodel.net for answers to common questions about CompModel.

We are officially launching the new product at the end of August.

I'll be presenting the tool for the first time publically in San Diego at the August meeting of the San Diego Compensation and Benefits Association.
